Take it further
We are all pencils in the hand of God.
- Mother Teresa
Once you discover God’s radical call for a life totally devoted to his values, you will never be the same. These ideas will help you get started on writing God’s letter of love to our needy world
Learn about the issues
Our opinions of the poor are framed by the media, which do not always present the whole truth. Try reading alternative views, find out the facts about inequality and the role of economic systems that favour rich and powerful nations like ours. Search websites, read some issues of The Guardian online or Sojourners and watch some documentaries.

Study what God says
Check the Micah Challenge website for more Bible material on justice. We need to recognise that evangelism, social action, prayer and love are all intrinsic to God’s message of good news. If we do one without the others, we are denying part of the richness of our faith.
Ask God what needs to change
This could be dangerous! Ask God to show you if any of your attitudes or life choices could be changed to make you more aligned to Micah 6:8. Think about your money, the car you drive, how you spend your time. Could you do one or two things to live more simply and righteously?
Could God be asking you to make some radical decisions about money or your job or your next holiday?
Pray
Pray regularly for issues of injustice around the world. Focus on stories in the news, use the updates sent by mission groups you support, pray specifically for leaders.
Get regular prayer updates from Micah Challenge.
Consume fairly
A simple way of focusing on justice is to buy fairly traded tea, coffee and chocolate. There are several ways to source these products which pay a fair price to the growers.
Such a move is an important symbol of Christian values. Ask the cafes and supermarkets in your area if they sell fairly traded products.
If you pay superannuation, check to see if the funds are invested ethically. There are a number of ethical/Christian superannuation funds.
Sign the Micah Call
Micah Challenge is a Christian campaign supported by many different denominations. We want individuals to use their voices to speak out for God’s values on the important issue of poverty.
Talk to five of your friends about Micah Challenge. Talk to your pastor/church leader about social justice.
Give generously
Our money and time are precious and they really belong to God.
Give to projects in Australia and overseas to meet people’s basic needs, restore dignity and demonstrate God’s love. If you don’t already give regularly,
Check out the Christian agencies that endorse Micah Challenge.
Give time by volunteering for an organisation that reaches out to the needy. Write to newspapers and politicians about justice issues to show we care and to be a prophetic voice.
Speak Out
Use your voice (not just singing songs from Heart Life VOICE) but to make a noise on behalf of people who have no voice. You could even hold an event at church or school to raise awareness. Invite your MP to church or go to visit – politely and positively ask for action on issues of injustice.
